Now I understand why Bilbo Baggins was always going on about his pocket hankerchiefs!

If you’re a fan of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis like I am, you may have often wondered why pocket hankerchiefs, or hankies, featured so prominently in both books. Why did characters like Bilbo Baggins and Lucy Pevensie seem to get so much reassurance out of having hankies at hand. Why, too, did giving [...]

Yukoners three times more likely to have their bike stolen than anywhere else in Canada

I knew I wasn’t being paranoid, the statistics prove (as much as any statistic can) that we Yukoners are three times more likely to have our bike stolen than anywhere else in Canada.

Follow-up on the bike lockers

Thank you to Dave for updating me on the bike locker situation! Since I’m away on vacation, I didn’t know that there was finally something online I could finally link to!
Now, I don’t want to continue the drama, I just wanted to be responsible and follow up with everyone.
I’m thrilled and excited [...]

Fees for Bike lockers

Did you happen to see the CBC story on bike lockers at a local institution?
If you have an opinion about this, please DO NOT post to this blog but put your comments on the CBC’s website. I’m just a lowly worker that is thrilled that this institution is providing protected bike storage now that [...]

Joining the annual convergence of Yukon cyclists

Tim will be pleased to hear that I’m off to Haines Junction for the Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay this weekend. He caught me last year when I said something about how I do the bike race every year… but then didn’t do it and did the Mayo Midnight Marathon instead. In my [...]

I really don’t understand why people would drive to work when they can bike!

Today I had to drive to work ’cause I have a meeting downtown immediately after work and I knew I wouldn’t make it if I biked. Plus, I can do some errands this way too.
It was the first time in a long time that I didn’t bike to work… and now I remember why! [...]

Who put those mountains there?

Did you happen to know that Whitehorse is located in the Rocky Mountains? It’s funny, but live here long enough and you take it for granted… until you bike home from work for the first time in the year and ALL of it is uphill! Brutal. And it was made worse by the [...]

389 kms for Wheel 2 Work Whitehorse

I just sent in my final total to the lovely ladies over at the city’s environment department for the Wheel 2 Work Whitehorse. A total of 389 kms from May 1st to September 30th! It probably would have been a lot higher but I didn’t start biking until July 17th because I was [...]

I wonder how long I could continue biking this year…

Today it was around +6 and raining (maybe even a bit of wet snow) for my bike ride home and I was surprisingly comfortable. The only complaint I have is that my glasses fogged up and I couldn’t see, but I have an optometrist appointment next week to get contact lenses so that should [...]

Time to switch to my mountain bike

I’ve moved my pannier from my touring road bike to my mountain bike. It was time. I nearly wiped out one day biking home in the rain. It’s the Fall, what are you going to do, right?
I can really feel the change. One of the biggest is that I haven’t used [...]
