Reasons why I wish I could have afforded to go to WILU this year

Once again, the program for WILU looks outstanding. I wish SO much I had the money to go this year, but that money needs to go to the wedding. Oh well, next year.
Here are the things I’ll be missing:

The keynote is Dr. John M. Budd and his talk is about research directions in [...]

Back from the BC Library Conference and full of writing ideas

I’m back from Burnaby and the BC Library Conference and I have all these ideas for possible research and writing opportunities.
One thing became clear to me, probably because for the first time I was thinking about it, but we as a profession talk about all these important things happening in our profession and [...]

The 2-page handout for the BC Library Conference

This year the BC Library Conference will be giving attendees Conference Handbooks instead of having conference presenters distribute their handouts individually. For you this means you get a preview of my 3-hour preconference session weeks before the conference. Fun!

Explaining the outward differences between presenting and facilitating

I’ve been struggling to articulate the differences between presenting and facilitating to articulate things clearly in preparation of my materials for the BC Library Conference Pre-Conference session I’m doing, but thankfully Shawna just gave me an expression a few months ago I can use. And suddenly everything clicked and I was even able to [...]

Showing of “Hollywood Librarian” in Whitehorse for Canadian Library Month

Goodness, the local library community is continuing the momentum of the last few months, aren’t they? So cool! Now, there’s even a movie night to celebrate Canadian Library Month (October).
From the PSA that went out…

The Association of Canadian Archivists to be meeting in the Yukon in 2012

This is cool to see: The Association of Canadian Archivists are scheduled to have their annual general meeting and conference in Whitehorse, Yukon in 2012.
Almost makes me wish I was an Archivist just so I could get involved!

That settles it — Living in the North has ruined me!

I’ve been in a really great discussion by email with two colleagues down south. We want to see if we can find a way to offer travel bursaries for presenters at a certain conference through a circuitous route since the library association that runs the conference, as a firm rule, doesn’t give speakers money.
