Generating ideas for possible thesis statements to argue in possible articles

I’m working away, sometimes alone, sometimes with a co-author, on brainstorming many ideas for possible articles for writing and publishing. I get the impression a few of you are joining me on this journey. So, I thought I’d share with you some of the questions I’m asking myself to think of possible journal [...]

A Form to record my ideas for possible articles

As I keep my eyes and ears open for possible ideas for journal articles, I’m realizing how easy it would be to lose track of all these “brilliant” ideas. So, I’ve spent some time and designed a one page form to track these ideas so I can keep a running file.
Somehow my [...]

Richard Wendorf’s way of facilitating librarians having time to conduct research

Wendorf, Richard. (2005). The scholar-librarian: Books, libraries, and the visual arts. New Castle, DE: Oak Knoll Press.
The following quotation is taken directly from the book by Wendorf, see citation above.
As I work on my thesis, over and over again I’m reading articles where academic librarians are discussing how they [...]

Is it possible to compare the hoarding habits of craftswomen to book buyers?

Last night, I finished reading an engaging article about quilters who hoard their fabric “stash” and it got me wondering if the study could be reproduced but instead of quilters, I would study book buyers.
The article that inspired it all…

Please critique my DACUM chart for my fictious course…

What do you think? This is my DACUM chart for a fictitious 30 hour course where local graduate students from the area come to learn how to library research at their home institution. This is one component that’s a requirement for my Instructor Diploma course 1301… more components to follow as they’re finished… [...]

Unions affect the working lives of many librarians yet we don’t talk about it as much as we do our associations, why is that?

Almost all of the librarians I know work in unionized environments. I think the only ones that don’t work for small special libraries for corporations. Maybe I know a librarian in a non-unionized environment but I can’t think of who that could be… Unions are a big part of our profession yet [...]

Creating a warehouse to store my work from my thesis’s literature review

No, I haven’t forgotten about my thesis. Yes, I did take a bit of a hiatus, but I’m back on track.
One thing I identified that is tripping me up when it comes to getting this done is I haven’t a place to warehouse all the information I collect on information literacy. I don’t [...]

Different models of providing access to online library databases

I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find a single paper that outlines the various models one can use to provide access to online library databases. So, here I am outlining them myself in case I ever get around to writing the paper I want to read.
Options for providing access to online library databases, listed [...]

This is how I see the new version of my thesis…

Let’s face it, I’m not going to get my thesis done unless I pick something I’m passionate about. It’s just so hard to work on a thesis and work full-time!
This is a snippet of an email I sent my official Thesis Advisor and my Honourary Thesis Committee (made up of a triumvirate [...]
