My report on my Alliance Facilitator Training
This is from the email that I sent out to union members. I’m not under any obligation to report back to the membership about what I learned in Union training, but I just think it’s good manners. And something tells me that you too would be interested in reading what I thought of [...]

Ideas generated by people so far to expand/increase my teaching experience:
Get a job co-teaching a course with a full-time faculty member
Create a Teaching Portfolio
Put together a course proposal and get a course assigned to me
Get that MEd done and start sending out the CVs
Look for community-based teaching opportunities
Write a textbook-like book that could be used [...]
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the job
Dear Readers,
Sad to say, I didn’t get the sessional teaching job I had interviewed for.
It seems I do not have the required years of working experience (7 out of the last 10 years) that they are looking for; I have only 7 years in the last 7 years. And, reading between the lines, [...]
Life comes full circle — My mom is known by who I am instead of the other way around
Recently, my Mom was in her local public library picking up her next batch of reading material and the librarian there (Hi Twyla!) was discussing hiring possibilities for her maternity leave with another employee from the municipality. The librarian suggested my Mom, Lesley the Retired Librarian, as a possible candidate. Politely, my Mom [...]

Yes, there were libraries long before the Gutenberg press, but I think it’s fair to say that our modern idea of a library can be traced to the invention of mass printing.
After all, libraries mainly existed before only where there were lots and lots… and lots of people to spend generations painstakingly handwriting every copy [...]
Framed Bunnies Cross Stitches
Check out the Beatrix Potter-esque cross-stitches that I finished and framed last weekend. The patterns are from a German craft magazine called Anna that I borrowed from the local library.
I know, not my typical style, but I felt like I needed a change. At least the frames are my style. [...]

Libraries and Librarians have a long history of fostering, or taking care of, people who need a haven. I myself spent a rough year of high school hiding in the library during the lunch period. And I’m proud to continue the tradition of providing a welcoming comfort for those who need a place [...]

Have you ever been in a library during exam season? It’s a frightening place, isn’t it? All these normally mild-mannered students suddenly turn into a snarling pack of wildebeasts ready to shush out any sound that would disturb their peace. Any academic librarian know exactly what I’m talking about.
Honestly, I [...]
Library Alphabet — D is for Develop* (note the use of the wildcard)
Libraries are good at developing things. We are developers, we promote development, and we are always developing. I couldn’t pick just one version of this word so I’ll stick with my use of the wildcard a la database searching technique
Libraries help to develop communities or the sense of community. They [...]
Off to Yellowknife for some more training…
There’s a part of me that thinks I’m absolutely crazy — who goes to Yellowknife in January when you live in Whitehorse? Why aren’t I going south instead? But that’s just me, always needing to learn how to be a better teacher!
In this case, it’ll be for some union training that I have [...]
