What if our assumptions about the millenials’ Internet and computer habits were wrong?

Two librarians at Mohawk College asked this question and then did a major research project to find out. Their findings were quite surprising and essentially show that a lot of our great, futuristic thinking library and technological leaders are actually seeing a utopian world that doesn’t exist. LOVE IT!!

Of all the presentations that I saw at WILU 37, this was the one I came back from talking about the most.

Again, a text-dense PPT so you’ll easily get the gist of what they said.

Horwath, Jen and Williamson, Cynthia (2008) The kids are alright – or are they? (PDF). Delivered at WILU 2008: 37th Workshop on Instruction in Library Use, UBC Okanagan, Kelowna, British Columbia (Canada). Presentation.

Thank you for this. I will be doing some reading. Did the study(s) authors control for:
    a) income
    b) connectivity speed?
I.e. It\\\’s easier to be more connected in a high-speed, low cost connectivity world than a dial-up, high cost world.
