Peer-Review Journals in LIS that I’d like to publish in
Reviewing the various feedback out there, I’ve come to the conclusion that for right now, I have to do what I can to publish in the more established LIS journals out there. I need to think like an application review committee and it sounds like what they want to see are applicants with articles published in peer-reviewed journals that they’re familiar with.
If we assume that the majority of the people on application review committees are long-standing faculty members, it could also be assumed that they are older members of the faculty and may prefer older journals that fit the traditional model of scholarly publishing. In other words, I’m not doing myself much good right now to publish in a web-only, new journal. I need to be more strategic in publishing, particularly because the peer review process is so lengthy and I need to start applying to programs in 6 months. I need to identify a set of criteria to determine those journals with the highest impact of what I assume an application review committee is looking for and work from that.
Please note that I don’t happen to agree with all of these limitations (particularly the print-only one), but one day when I’m a tenured professor I can work to change this kind of thinking. Right now, I have to work within the system so please don’t send me angry emails!
For me to publish in a journal I’d prefer it if they met the following criteria:
- Peer-reviewed
- Print-based
- List when articles are “in press” or “pre-publication” (i.e. they haven’t been printed yet but they’ve been accepted for publication)
- An older, well-known journal
- Cover my areas of research interest
Publishing possibles include the following:

This is a great list!I am new to the field and I am wondering if there is any order in terms of prestige here. Which are the top 10 journals?
